What is the difference between low carbon steel and carbon steel?

Low carbon steel annealing is ferrite and a small amount of pearlite, with low strength and hardness, good plasticity and toughness.Therefore, its cold forming is good, it can be cold formed by winding, bending, pressing and so on.This kind of steel also has good weldability.Carbon content from 0.10% to 0.30% low carbon steel is easy to accept various processing such as forging, welding and cutting, often used in manufacturing chains, rivets, bolts, shafts, etc.


Carbon steel carbon content is less than 1.35%(0.1%-1.2%), except iron, carbon and limit of silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur and other impurities, excluding other alloy elements of steel.The performance of carbon steel depends mainly on carbon content.The carbon content increases, the strength and hardness of the steel increases, and the plasticity, toughness and weldability are reduced.Compared with other steel classes, carbon steel is the earliest, low cost, wide range of performance and the largest amount.Applicable to the nominal pressure pn 32.0 MPa, or less temperature for 30-425 water, steam, air, hydrogen, ammonia, nitrogen and oil products such as medium.The commonly used brands include WC1, WCB, ZG25 and high quality steel 20, 25, 30 and low alloy structural steel 16Mn.The range of carbon steel is larger, and low carbon steel, medium carbon steel and high carbon steel are all carbon steel.

(5) according to the quality of the steel can be divided into ordinary carbon steel to carbon steel (high phosphorus, sulfur, high quality carbon steel, low phosphorus, sulfur) and high quality steel (containing phosphorus, sulfur, lower) and super high quality steel.Note: generally carbon steel has higher carbon content and higher hardness and higher strength, but lower plasticity.
